First-class event for the "Higher school"students
The Legal Service of Metafrax Chemicals, JSC, and the Perm Campus of the National Research University "Higher School of Economics" (HSE) have launched a joint initiative. The project concept is to conduct a series of practice-oriented events for law students.
The Company's lawyers gave their first class on March 21. It was a master class on working with a real case involving planning actions against a debtor - a foreign counterparty from an unfriendly state.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vyacheslav Osinovskikh, Deputy Director for Legal Affairs, spoke about the history of Metafrax and its products, the development of the "Ruschem" holding, the structure and features of legal support for business. Then the chief legal adviser of the Department of contractual work, Yulia Sarapultseva, presented to the students the methodology of brainstorming, explained the rules of the event and presented the tools for achieving results.
During the main part of the meeting, the chief legal adviser of the Department of Judicial and Claims-relatedWork, Yulia Zhukova, together with colleagues and students, worked out the complex nuances of the case, which includes a variety of aspects that the Company's lawyers face in their work. These are thelegal requirements, problems with communication with former partners from Europe, complex contractual structures, and the ambiguity of the practical situation.
Following the meeting, the students shared their impressions, especially noting the benefits of communicating regarding a real case. In their opinion, this allows us to understand how and with what corporate lawyers work, to assess the scope and complexity of decision-making in the absence of sufficient introductory information. The best gratitude was the phrase of one of the students thatit was the"first-class event".
Head of the HSE Educational Program Olga Yerakhtina highlighted as follows:
- For students, communication with fellow practitioners is always of great interest, since such meetings allow them to apply their knowledge in practice, show themselves,andto understand that theoretical knowledge does not always guarantee the ease of solving problems, and see the versatility of the problems they will have to work with in the future. The event itself was easy, it was the format of live communication "on equal terms". And brainstorming became the necessary element of the master class, which allowed for an active discussion, without being shy about the most daring proposals. As a result, everyone was so engrossed in the task that they did not notice how two doubleclasses passed instead of one doubleclass.
The curator of the project Vyacheslav Osinovskikh said:
- The key to success in any business is curiosity, a feature that is especially important for lawyers who face non–standard tasks on a daily basis. This feature is often underestimated, but we at Metafrax know perfectly well that there are no hopeless situations, and any problem can be solved effectively and efficiently. The case that we showed to the students is an excellent example of a multifaceted task that requires a non–standard approach, deep analytics and creative thinking.
Project Manager Yulia Zhukova said:
- We were pleased to see sincere interest, burning eyes, sometimes even surprise fromthe intricacyof a very real situation. At such moments, you feel proud of a company that faces such challenges on a daily basis, for colleagues who successfully cope with them, for students who are not afraid of a difficult case. For many people, this was the first time, which did not prevent everyoneactivelyto offer ideas, "live through" the situation, and look for ways to achieve a positive result.
