Metafrax has produced its 500 thousandth ton of ammonia
On December 10th, the first half-millionth ton of ammonia since the start-up of production was manufactured by shift A under the management of Ilya Kukoev at the "Ammonia-Urea-Melamine" (AUM) complex of Metafrax Chemicals.
Albert Khudaibirdin, Managing Director for Production of the company, Viktor Maier, Deputy Managing Director for Production, Andrey Eremeev, Technical Director, Vladimir Daut, Adviser to the Managing Director for Production, and Aleksey Dolganov, Director of the AUM plant, congratulated the production workshop staff on this milestone event. The managers thanked the operators, process engineers and laboratory assistants for their competent work and responsible approach. In addition, they noted that the stable operation of the entire AUM complex depends on the reliable operation of the ammonia production workshop, since the resulting ammonia serves as a raw material for the production of urea and melamine.
The AUM complex was put into operation by Metafrax Chemicals in June of 2023. The new production plants created about 400 new high-tech jobs and expanded the range of products manufactured by Metafrax. The company has provided itself with its own raw materials for the production of resins and other downstream products. During the implementation of the project, the infrastructure and social aspects of Gubakha were significantly renovated, which altogether improved the quality of life in the city.
"Ammonia-Urea-Melamine" is a technologically interconnected production complex, the uniqueness of which is based on the most modern technologies and integration with the existing methanol production. The new production differs from the traditional ammonia synthesis route in that it operates on pure gases – nitrogen and hydrogen. In this case, hydrogen is obtained from the purge gas of methanol production and carbon dioxide for urea synthesis is obtained from flue gases of methanol production. This solution allows a significant reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
Metafrax’s construction of the only carbon dioxide recovery plant in Russia and Europe and of a new waste-water treatment unit allowed to achieve a significant environmental effect.
