"Metafrax" became the best in the international climate competition titled "Green Eurasia".

The award ceremony for the winners and finalists of the first international climate competition "Green Eurasia" was held on May 24th at the second Eurasian Economic Forum in Moscow. The first place in the "Clean Industry" nomination was taken by "Metafrax Chemicals". Vladimir Daut, a member of the Board of Directors of "Metafrax Group", received the award.

For the purposes of competition, the enterprise from Gubakha, Perm region, submitted an innovative practice on the use of flue gases of reforming furnaces of methanol production for the recovery of CO2 with its subsequent use as a raw material for synthesis of urea and melamine.

"Metafrax Group" is completing the implementation of the largest investment project in the history of the holding for construction of the "Ammonia-Urea-Melamine" (AUM) complex based on purge gas from methanol production. The application of CO2, which was recovered from flue gases, specifically for synthesis of urea was used at "Metafrax" for the first time in worldwide practice. This СО2 recovery unit is the only one in Russia and the second in the world in terms of productivity. The AUM complex currently operates in the commissioning mode.

The recovery of CO2 from the flue gases of reforming furnaces of methanol production will allow to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere to 1 200 tons per day and use the CO2 stream with economic efficiency as a key raw material for synthesis of urea and melamine. As a result, efficient use of natural resources (natural gas), reduction of harmful emissions into the atmosphere and reduction of water consumption by the AUM complex are achieved. The socio-economic effect of the project is expressed in the creation of new jobs and tax revenues.

The International Climate Competition "Green Eurasia" is held by the Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization "Agency of Strategic Initiatives for the Promotion of New Projects" together with the Eurasian Economic Commission in order to search for effective practices for climate mitigation and adaptation as well as other climate practices aimed at sustainable development of the Eurasian Economic Union's member states and popularization of these practices.

The competition received around 300 projects from citizens, companies and government bodies of the Eurasian Economic Union's member states as well as a number of neighboring countries. The leading experts of the Eurasian Economic Union's member states in the area of climate mitigation and adaptation as well as members of the competition's presidium have determined the winners and finalists of the competition in 10 nominations.
