Metafrax produced 300 thousand tons of ammonia at its new plant

Ammonia is produced at the production site of JSC Metafrax Chemicals in Gubakha (Perm region) at the modern Ammonia-Urea-Melamine (AUM) complex put in operation in June 2023. On February 11, 2024, at 21:00, employees of the plant led by the shift supervisor Yevgeny Plakidin released three hundred thousand tons of ammonia since the first launch of the plant.

Ammonia is one of the most important products of the modern chemical industry. It is a raw material for the production of various chemical products, including urea. The finished product of the AUM complex is liquefied ammonia according to GOST 6221-90 of the Ak grade (99.8%).

As a remainder, construction of a new production facility at Metafrax started on March 2, 2018, when the first cube of concrete was laid at the base of the AUM complex. The area of the complex is 34 hectares, 128 facilities have been built on its territory. As part of the largest investment project, more than 400 new highly qualified jobs were created at the enterprise. Metafrax Group has built six multi-storey residential buildings for the company's employees in Gubakha.

During the construction of the AUM complex the best available technologies were used. Thanks to the creation of a CO2 recovery plant, a significant environmental effect has been achieved - direct carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere have been halved. Ammonia is synthesized using pure gases – nitrogen and hydrogen, while hydrogen is produced from the purge gas of methanol production.
